Your Truth vs. The Truth

Your truth, the truth, what’s the difference? Why does it matter?

Your truth is just that – yours. It is specific to you, and does not depend on anyone nor anything else. And because it is unique to you, it can change just like you can. What was true for you five years ago may or may not be true for you today. And that’s OK.

On the other hand, the truth is static (typically), it doesn’t change. If you fail to stop at a red light and cause an accident, that truth doesn’t change. Your failure to obey the road rules caused an accident, that fact won’t change no matter how much time passes.

So why does any of this matter? It matters because there are times when our healing, growth, and evolution causes our personal truth to change. However, sometimes others like to treat our personal truth as a static truth that can’t, or won’t, ever change.

Some people may even try to guilt-trip you to keep you stuck in your past, and some may even try to use it against you or use it to control you. That judgement from others can negatively affect you, leaving you to deal with the emotional fallout.

When you know the work you put in to heal and grow, you are confident in your truth. When you are confident in your truth, you don’t allow others to define it for you.

When they can’t define your truth for you, they can’t control you or guilt-trip you into feeling some kind of way about yourself. Nor can they use it against you. That’s a level of freedom that many never get to experience.

The moral of the story is: own your truth. Know that your truth is unique and specific to YOU and not subject to the whims of others. It is not carved in stone; therefore, it can change as often as you do. And most importantly, it is perfectly OK for both you and your truth to change and evolve!
